Feminism or Absenteeism?
Why’s it blackmail? Why not blackfemail? Because, hey! That
makes no sense just like the trending ‘feminism’. But unfortunately, that’s a
fact camouflaged by the increasing romanticizing of the term mentioned already.
What is feminism? Female domination? NO. Suppressing the males? NO. Feminism
is, in literal terms, the theory of political, economical and social equality among
the sexes and not an excuse to raise meaningless protests and movements. Many
people who tried to fight the system were weighed down by Weltschmerz. What’s encouraging
this completely messed up inaccuracy? Is it the kakistocracies? Is it the
media? Or, is it all of us? No title can reach popularity unless it’s majorly
hyped up by a flock of sheep and so, in order to bring a change in the
mentality of the contextual sheep, it is important to bring a change in the
herder’s mentality and basic understanding first.
Yes, masculinity is always appraised in our society, women are commended when they are masculine and the
stereotypes are the very definition of internalized misogyny but is
overestimating the qualities of males set down as necessary by the society fair
to the gentle lads too? Does this not encourage the toxic monogamy culture?
Babasaheb worked tirelessly for the equal rights of women in the past and
assured the inclusion of articles 14,15 and 21 in the Indian Constitution, but
have we seen females fighting against the stereotypes stamped on males in the
pages of history? Probably not. Of course, among the two genders, females have
always tolerated harsh discrimination and inequality but what no one sees is
the fact that amidst this injustice, men are suffering too, quietly. Much to an
intellectual’s indignation, the males are expected to be strong, to hide their
emotions fully and to avoid expressing themselves. How’s that fair and justified in any manner?
Now, keeping aside the general beliefs and the aura
surrounding the recent MeToo movement, the lack of involvement of feminism in
religion (a sphere where the practice of feminism is actually required in its
absolute form) is particularly saddening. If Polygyny is so widely popular and practiced,
why is polyandry so badly frowned upon? If women are told to cover each and
every inch of their body, why aren’t men told to do so too? What is this, if
not a threat to the entirety of feminism just like patriarchy? How can saying “It
is what has been practiced since ages by our ancestors and so it shall be
followed even now.” be accepted in a world which demands technical reasons,
solid shreds of evidence and concrete facts?
Have we actually evolved and learned from our history or are
we still as blind and lost as the ships looking for a lighthouse to follow?
